Policy report on climate change impact on food production

11 August 2019

A report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change highlights the urgent need to reduce food waste.

This special report is a summary for policymakers dealing with climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems.

Among other things the report notes that global population growth and changes in per capita consumption of food, feed, fibre, timber and energy have caused unprecedented rates of land and freshwater use, with agriculture currently accounting for ca. 70% of global fresh-water use. Human use directly affects more than 70% of the global, ice-free land surface.
